Santa Paula Firefighters were among public safety responders called to the scene of a head-on collision last week on Foothill Road that could have been caused by gusty winds.

Ventura City and Ventura County Fire departments as well as the California Highway Patrol responded to the April 29 accident that occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on Foothill Road near Aliso Canyon Road, about midway between Santa Paula and Ventura.

Heavy rescue was also called to the scene for the report of one victim trapped in a white compact car that had collided with a semi-truck, extensively damaging the front end of the car. The driver’s side airbag in the compact deployed upon impact.

The driver of the compact car was transported to an area hospital where she reportedly was undergoing testing but appeared to have only minor injuries. The female driver reportedly stated her vehicle was buffeted by a wind gust that caused it to swerve into the path of the oncoming semi-truck.

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured in the collision.

The CHP is investigating the incident.
