Arrest made in Norma Elizalde homicide

Approximately 5:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, April 1, 2014, Santa Paula Police Officers assisted by Ventura Police Officers, Port Hueneme Police Officers, Ventura County Sheriff's Deputies and the Ventura County District Attorney's Investigators executed three search warrants in relation to the homicide of Norma Elizalde that occurred on Saturday March 29th 2014 at approximately 1:00 p.m.

The purpose of the search warrants was to locate any evidence of the crime and also to arrest a named suspect. Arrested at his home without incident was Mark James Martinez 32 years, a resident of Santa Paula and a known documented gang member.

During the course of this investigation, Santa Paula Police Detectives developed information that led to the identity and arrest of Martinez. The suspects vehicle in which Martinez and another unidentified male fled the scene has also been located and seized as evidence.

At this time, the investigation is continuing to ascertain the identity of any other suspects involved.  Martinez was later transported and booked at Ventura County Jail.
