Dulce Mendoza, a 5th grader in Mrs. Bauer’s class won this year’s Spelling Bee at Blanchard Elementary.  Dulce was one of 18 contestants who competed in this years spelling competition on Tuesday, January 14, 2014. Dulce worked very hard this year to make it into the final Spelling Bee round by  studying word origins, morpheme patterns and the released spelling word list from the National Spelling Bee webpage.  When Dulce entered last year’s Spelling Bee finals at Blanchard she went out after the first round. She came back this year determined to do better. She is very happy to have spelled the final word, “situation”.  Dulce lives with her mother, grandmother and a collection of hamsters as pets in her family’s small apartment. She wants to work as a veterinarian and help animals when she gets older.

Dulce will compete in the Ventura County Spelling Bee in March 2014.
