Joy Cooper

Shirley Joy Cooper died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013.  The grace and courage with which she fought the ravages of cancer near the end of a long life were and are a source of amazement to us all.

Joy Foster was born in Bell, CA, on April 30, 1929, to Grace and Mont S. Foster.  Her parents, and also her eldest son, Grant Foster Cooper, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years John A. Cooper, Santa Paula, CA, daughters Gaye (Gary) Light of Elgin, SC,  and Sharyn (Dick) McPherson of Olympia, WA, and son Thomas (Jina) Cooper of Santa Rosa, CA.  Her grandchildren are Sky and Julie Cooper of Chandler, AZ., Capt. Jeremy and Carmen McPherson, Ft. Rucker AL, Sgt. Eric and Charity Light, Charleston SC, Nicolle Cooper, Seattle WA,  Jessica Joy and Tim Thwaites, Denver CO, and Danielle Cooper, Chandler AZ, Ely Cooper, Santa Rosa, CA. Great-grandchildren are Keegan and Dash Cooper, Madison and Cooper McPherson, Henry Thwaites and “BabyT” (due in May).

Joy met the love of her life in college at Santa Barbara, and they married Jan. 28, 1950. The Coopers have made their home in Santa Paula since 1952. 

Joy had a special JOY in life, whether it was at work or play. She loved her friends and family deeply; loved tennis, Disneyland, traveling, embroidery, flower arranging, casinos and bridge. She truly had a wonderful life and will be missed dearly by her family and friends.

A Celebration of her life will be at 1:00pm, Saturday Jan.4, 2014, at the Santa Paula United Methodist Church, 133 No. Mill St., Santa Paula, CA.93060. Reception to follow in Faulkner Hall.

The family suggests that instead of sending flowers, a donation might be made to SP United Methodist Church or Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Assoc. & Hospice, 1996 Eastman Ave. Suite 101, Ventura, CA 93003-5768. 

Sabino P. Garcia

Sabino Pineda Garcia, 81, of Santa Paula passed away on December 16, 2013.  He was born February 2, 1932, in Valencianita, Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico.  Sabino is survived by Celia Garcia, his loving wife of 57 years, and their children: Marcial, Conchita, Jose “Guero,” Pete, Sally, Sabino Jr., Albert, Gabriel, Manuel and their spouses.  Sabino has 26 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his only brother Jose Merced Garcia of Santa Paula.

Sabino retired from Limoneira Company after 35 years of service where he was a field worker and gardener.  Sabino and his family have lived in Santa Paula for many years.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.  We love you Dad.

A Visitation will be held from 1:00-6:00p.m., Sunday, December 22nd at Church of Angels, 600 East Pleasant Street, Santa Paula followed with a rosary to be recited at 7:30p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 427 North Oak Street, Santa Paula. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 23rd also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Charles Lueras, C.R.I.C. Officiating. Committal & Interment will follow at Santa Paula Cemetery.
