Frank D. Woods

“Ponchie”

1925-2013

With angels singing, heavens gates opened on the morning of November 27th, 2013. Frank was met by his parents, Anton and Nancy Jane Woods, sister, Margie Brown, neice Cheryl Ristow, and many loved ones. He is survived by his brother, Sam Woods, nieces and nephews, Janet Darrah, Doug and Norma Woods, Debbie and Robert Pierson, Frank and Nancy Sigala, Becki Allsenberrie, Tina and Bryan Smalley, and Butch Ristow, and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Although Frank had no biological children of his own, he opened his arms lovingly for many.

Frank was born in Hugo, Colorado on June 9th, 1925. He moved to Limoneira in 1941 and graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1943. Following graduation he joined the Army and served in World War II in Italy. Upon his return, he went to work for the Oxnard Sugar Factory commuting between Oxnard and Florida. His great love for cooking lead him to careers for both the Glen Tavern, The Pierpont Inn, and many years of assistance at the Ventura County Hospital as a dietary cook from which he retired in 1998. Frank spent his later years taking care of his mother in the family home. He enjoyed his annual road trips as well, with his favorite spots being Texas, Oklahoma, and Illinois. And later, when it became too long to drive, he continued his travels via flight to Texas and Louisiana. He was a charter member of the Life Way Baptist Church in Santa Paula and enjoyed his many years of service there and his honorary title of “the Gravy Man”. In lieu of flowers he would be honored if those that would like to, would make a donation to the Life Way Baptist Church Food Pantry.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at 11:00a.m., Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Life Way Baptist Church, 673 West Santa Paula Street, Santa Paula, CA with Pastor Bob Walpole Officiating. Committal and Interment will follow at Santa Paula Cemetery.
