A Santa Paula man who was already a registered sex offender is facing another court date to determine when he will stand trial for allegedly molesting an 11-year-old victim.
At an October 8 preliminary hearing a Ventura County Superior Court judge ordered Alfonso Gonzalez, 58, to stand trial on the charges that he committed lewd acts upon a child going back to May 2012.
Gonzalez was arrested June 25 in the 600 block of Sheffield Road, about three days after Santa Paula Police received a report that Gonzalez - a registered sex offender since the 1990s who appears on Megan’s List - had committed lewd and lascivious acts involving the victim.
Gonzalez is due back in court on October 23rd to be arraigned on the charges and have a trial date set. He is being held on $1.4 million bail, a hold requested by the SPPD.
Gonzalez’s wife Penny Gonzalez, 52, was also arrested June 25 on allegations that she tried to dissuade the victim. She was later released on bail.
She also appeared in court October 8 where the judge took the question of whether she should face trial on the charge under submission.
According to court records, Alfonso Gonzalez was sentenced to six years in prison in the 1990’s after pleading guilty to continuous sexual abuse of a child and lewd acts with a child.
