An artist known for his versatility and creativity will be showing his techniques at Sunday’s Santa Paula Society of the Arts meeting.
The October 13 meeting will feature Gerald Zwers as the Demonstration Artist; the public is invited to attend the meeting and could win a work of art by Zwers.
The session will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Depot Gallery at the corner of North 10th and East Santa Barbara streets.
According to SPSA President Kaye Ford, Zwers is an award-winning artist and author as well as, “One of the most versatile and creative artists working today.”
She noted that collectors in nearly all 50 states as well as nine foreign countries have acquired artworks by Zwers, a Santa Paula resident and the owner of five previous galleries in California with a background in art conservation.
In 2010 competition sponsored by the Ventura Arts Council, Zwers’ work was selected by Teatro de las Americas for its production, “En Boca de Todos, Bocanegra” and displayed at a reception at the Mexican Consulate in Oxnard.
Virginia Gunderson of the SPSA said for Sunday’s demonstration Zwers would “be inspiring the attendees to use commonplace objects to create surprising results.”
Zwers, noted Gunderson, “Will be using Aqua Media to produce his desired results.... “
Zwers, the chairman of the annual Santa Paula Art & Photography Show, has said in the past that it is fair to consider him an “artistic chameleon, changing my style to suit the occasion.”
