A registered Santa Paula sex offender facing new allegations of lewd acts with a child is due in court next week for a preliminary hearing.
Alfonso Gonzalez, 58, pleaded not guilty in a Ventura County Superior Court in July to several charges involving an 11-year-old child, including incidents that allegedly occurred in May 2012 and June of this year.
Gonzalez and his wife Penny Gonzalez, 52, were arrested June 25 in the 600 block of Sheffield Road.
The arrests came about three days after Santa Paula Police received a report that Gonzalez - a registered sex offenders since the 1990s - had committed lewd and lascivious acts involving the 11-year-old victim.
Penny Gonzalez was arrested on allegations that she tried to dissuade the victim and later released on bail; she has pleaded not guilty and is also scheduled to appear in court October 8 according to court records.
Alfonso Gonzalez remains in jail on $1.4 million bail, an amount requested by Santa Paula Police after his arrest when bail was initially set at $500,000.
Police Investigators noted Gonzalez is listed on the state’s Megan’s Law website as a registered sex offender. According to court records, he was sentenced to six years in prison in the 1990’s after pleading guilty to continuous sexual abuse of a child and lewd acts with a child.
