Santa Paula Police recovered a semi-automatic handgun and more than 20 grams of what could be methamphetamine when four documented area gang members were arrested Friday at a popular area park.
According to SPPD Detective Allen Macias, the incident occurred August 9 at about 5:19 p.m. at Las Piedras Park in the 400 block of North 13th Street. Officers with the SPPD Gang Unit spotted Alex Castro, 31, Frank Anaya, 18, Christopher Sigala, 22 and Manuel Zepeda, 22, at the park where soccer practice and games are often held. All the men are residents of Santa Paula and documented gang members.
Macias noted that Anaya, who attempted to leave the area as officer’s approached, was observed concealing “an unknown object” near shrubbery bordering the east side of the park. When officer’s searched the area they located a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun.
Macias noted the terms and conditions of Sigala’s probation allowed a vehicle associated with him to be searched, and officers located 21.3 grams of suspected methamphetamine. Sigala was arrested for narcotic related charges, Anaya was arrested for weapons related charges, and both Castro and Zepeda were arrested for violating the terms and conditions of probation by associating with known gang members.
The four were taken to Ventura County Main Jail.
