Ebell Club Fashion Show March 9

The Santa Paula club, organized November 10, 1913 as a chapter of the club first established by Dr. Adrian Ebell, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
Their 2011-2012 directory listed 42 members still participating in Ebell activities.
Activities listed in the directory for October 2011 through May 2012 included salad bar lunches, cards and games at the home of Frances Bay, presentations on poinsettias (November) and “spring vegies and flowers” (March) by Do Right’s Nursery, and a variety of entertainment, including Gil Rosas at the piano, Voices of the Valley, the Susan Belzer Trio, “Sax in the City” and “Holly Rollers.” There was also a Reagan Library tour, a “Trip to Ocean’s Restaurant for Dim Sum” and the May installation of new officers.
Standing Rules for the Santa Paula Ebell Club, as published in the 1988-1989 directory, included directions for luncheon reservations. Among other stipulations, “Luncheon expense of newspaper representatives is to be paid for by the Club” and “Luncheon and dinner reservations are limited to one hundred fifty.”
Rules also indicated that “Except for the Ways and Means projects, guest invitations should be extended to prospective members only. A non-member may attend only two regular meetings during the year. House guests may be invited at any time.”
Continuing our listing of past presidents of the organization, serving the second 25 years, 1941 through 1963, were Alice Eakin (1941-1943), Grace Thille (1943-1945), Eva Walden (1945-1947), Sylvia Dodds (1947-1949), Jeanne Culbertson (1949-1950), Mary Louise Hardison (1950-1951), Becky White Savage (1951-1953), Mildred Harding (1953-1955), Evelyn Reed (1955-1956), Alice Mears (1956-1958), Maxine Bryden (1958-1959), Monnah Wagner (1959-1961), and Janet Richardson King (1961-1963).
Today’s Ebell Club of Santa Paula invites you to join them in their centennial celebration. On Saturday, March 9 they present their “Hats On – Hats Off” Fashion Show and Luncheon in Wesley Hall of the First United Methodist Church, 133 N. Mill Street.
The ladies will have gathering and socializing at 11 a.m., followed at 12 noon with the luncheon. There will be vintage fashions, courtesy of Carol Beckerdite, and contemporary fashions provided by Draper’s and Damon’s.
Donation for the event is $25 per person. Funds raised will benefit the Santa Paula High School and Isbell School Bands, the SPHS Drama Department and the FFA.
