Lady Cards out after CIF second round loss to Yorba Linda

The Santa Paula High School girls’ soccer team lost a hard-fought game at Yorba Linda High School Tuesday evening.

The Yorba Linda Mustangs powered their way to a 2-0 win over the Lady Cardinals.  Santa Paula’s leading scorer all season, Taylor Alvarado found herself guarded by three defensive players throughout the game.  Even with that she managed several attempts to score, but the goalkeeper stopped the ball from going in.

The Lady Card defense put up a strong effort, despite very cold temperatures, holding Yorba Linda to just the two goals.  

After the game the girls huddled, some in tears.  Coach Jesus (Chuy) Cordova told the senior players that he wished them the best, wherever they go.  “I told the returning players to keep working on the game and hopefully we’ll do better next year,” Cordova said.  AS for Tuesday’s game, Cordova said, “We had good chances in the beginning but after that they put three players on Taylor and locked her down.”  Cordova added that the girls gave it their best.
