Thank You to the community
To the Editor:
I would like to thank the Community of Santa Paula for their commitment and loyalty to the student-athletes of Santa Paula High School. I have a deep passion for the sport of football and I committed 5 years of my life educating, coaching, motivating, and nurturing the student/athletes of Santa Paula High School. With your help, the Santa Paula High School Athletics Department has been able to financially fund various athletic programs through your generous donations. We are grateful for your support, which enables us to bring quality high school athletic programs and experience to the young people in our community.
I would like to personally thank a few individuals for their commitment to the Santa Paula High School football program. I would like to thank the administration for their support, especially Principal Elizabeth Garcia, Athletic Director, Dan Guzman for his dedication, support, and his countless hours making the SPHS athletic program, what it is today and Mr. Tony Gaitan, campus administration. Mr. Brian Wilson, for his weekly articles of SPHS football program and dedication in helping with the sponsorship fundraiser between the SPHS football players and the Santa Paula Times. Dr. Mike Tushla, for his dedication and medical services provided to the young men and women involved in extra-curricular activities. Dr. Tushla provided his efforts and volunteered his time in providing our athletes to obtain their physicals and donating the monies to the SPHS athletic department. Mr. Jorge Romero, for his commitment to help bring exposure to the student-athletes of SPHS through his ability to operate various websites and interview our student-athletes on KEYT, Sports Program, Football Focus. A special thank you to Councilman, Mr. Bob Gonzales and Councilman, Mr. Jim Tovias for their unwavering support to the football program. Mrs. Tana Ramirez, for her support especially in the first years of coaching. Officer Ed Reyes, the representative of Cops and Jocks, who supported the student-athletes by presenting a guest speaker every Thursday for the past 4 years. Mr. Ed Mendoza, for supporting all SPHS sport teams. Mr. Paul Hinojosa, for supporting the players at practice with his encouraging comments. The football team mothers that I have had over the past 5 years have been greatly appreciated by me and deserve a big thank you for all their hard work and dedication to the players and families. Mrs. Christy McClain, I want to especially thank for her unwavering support to the program, and who set a high standard of truly being a team mom. Mrs. Annette Herron and Mrs. Diane Perez for their time and dedication to the student-athletes in the first years of coaching. Mrs. Nina Unzueta and Mrs. Patty Magana for their efforts to help organize the pre-game meals, game day programs and working the snack bar on game days. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Garcia and Mrs. Eve Ayala for serving the players the meals before the game.
I would like to thank all my former players for their commitment, dedication, support, and effort to making the football program relevant in Ventura County. We won the Frontier League Championship, made the CIF playoffs for 3 years straight, competed in the competitive Tri-Valley League, defeated Fillmore in the 100th game, and have 16 alumni currently playing collegiate football.
Lastly, I would like to thank all of my assistant coaches for their countless hours of dedication, time away from their families, and commitment to the football program of Santa Paula. I could not thank you enough from the endless hours of film, game planning, scouting, pre games, weights, spring practice, summer practice, camp week, summer passing leagues, and to the season practice throughout the week and weekends. I would also like to thank my family and wife for their continual support throughout my tenure. Thank you

Reading the Sports section of the Times, I see that Jerry Burns sponsored the Youth Basketball teams. What a love he has for the youth.
