Routine traffic stop leads to arrest of two SP men

A routine traffic stop early Friday morning led to the arrest of two Santa Paula men after one was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm, according to Ventura Police.
The incident occurred January 25 at about 3:08 a.m. in the 1600 block of Johnson Drive. According to Ventura Police, when the vehicle came to a stop, officers saw a man trying to exit the vehicle through the rear passenger door. Although officers told the man to stay inside the vehicle, he continued to try to get out.
Additional officers were requested to respond to the scene and once searched Julian Nunez, 19, of Santa Paula, was found to have a loaded firearm. Nunez was taken into custody and the weapon secured. Another passenger, 22-year-old Omar Ruiz, also of Santa Paula, was found to be on parole and was arrested in connection to a parole violation.
No other firearms or weapons were located. The driver was not arrested and police released the vehicle to the registered owner.
Both Nunez and Ruiz were booked into the Ventura County Jail.
