The Santa Paula Girls’ High School Wrestling Team traveled to Baldwin Park last weekend to compete in their last tournament of the 2012 - 2013 season.
The Baldwin Park tournament is one of the most competitive of the season due to the number of returning CIF and State placers who attend in order to prepare for the upcoming CIF Sectionals which follow in two weeks. Santa Paula wanted to wrestle hard and prove one more time that they are the team to beat this season. After a long day of tough matches and outstanding wrestling, the Santa Paula Girls’ Team finished the tournament in second place with 196 team points, just shy of 1st place by “1” point! “The girls have wrestled their hearts out this entire season and never cease to amaze me with their determination and effort out on the mat. As we continue to persevere at each tournament, we strive as one towards our goal of attaining a CIF banner for Santa Paula High School and our Santa Paula community,” said Coach Mark Lopez.
The team continued its season by adding yet another 2nd place team trophy making the total five for the 2012 - 2013 season. The next step for the girls team will be on Friday and Saturday, February 8th and 9th in Moreno Valley as the girls compete for individual and team awards in the CIF Southern Sectionals.
