President Obama believes that service should be a lifelong commitment-whether it’s at school, community, city, state, or national level. That’s why the first family serves on a regular basis, and it’s why they’re continuing the tradition they started four years ago with a National Day of Service on January 19th, 2013. To honor the life and legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the first family is asking Americans to find an event and serve with others in their community.

Numerous members of the America in Bloom and the Santa Paula High School FFA joined together on Saturday, January 19, 2013 to assist with a volunteer clean-up of the landscape area of Isbell Middle School. “We are making an effort to get our students more involved within the community,” said FFA Advisor Alex Flores. “These activities are an extension of Santa Paula’s Beautification projects throughout the year in which students take time to improve many areas of our community, schools, parks and other much needed areas.”

Isbell has made the commitment to partner with America in Bloom to help beautify various areas of the school. The next Isbell workday is on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 9am. “Our partnership with the Future Farmers of America has been an increasing opportunity for students to take part of and put forth a lot of enthusiasm towards instilling pride in their home and community,” said America in Bloom member Karen Djernaes. “It’s an opportunity for everyone in Santa Paula to get involved and volunteer their time in making a positive difference in our hometown.”

The Santa Paula High School Agriculture program and FFA is working diligently to expand opportunities for student success, personal growth, and community involvement. “Serving our community is one of the benefits of being involved with the FFA and working with other local community organizations,” says FFA Chapter Secretary, Kristen Harvey.
