Fracking and water supply meeting Thursday

“Hydraulic Fracturing: The Benefits and Challenges to our Water Supply” is the topic of the Association of Water Agencies of Ventura County meeting on Thursday, Jan. 17, from 7:15 to 9 a.m. in Oxnard.
Fracking is a drilling technique in which chemicals, sand and water are blasted into rock formations deep in the earth to extract oil and gas. Describing fracking will be hydrogeologist Michael Irwin Flack. Discussing the legal and regulatory issues will be attorney David A. Ossentjuk, and exploring local implications of fracking will be Steve Bachman, Ph.D., groundwater policy manager with the United Water Conservation District.
The meeting will be at the Courtyard by Marriott, 600 E. Esplanade Drive., Oxnard. The cost is $25 for AWA members and $35 for nonmembers.
