A 41-year-old Santa Paula man known to local police was arrested in Ventura Saturday night after leading a motorcycle officer on an approximately six minute pursuit.
According to the Ventura Police Department, at about 11:40 p.m. a VPD motorcycle officer tried to stop a vehicle in the 400 block of Jordan Avenue for a traffic violation, but the vehicle failed to yield. Instead the vehicle turned westbound on Ocean Avenue and several other city streets as the motorcycle officer and other VPD patrol units began to pursue it.
During the pursuit, described by police as low speed, the driver committed several traffic violations before eventually pulling into the parking lot of Vons Grocery Store in the 2700 block of East Thompson Boulevard.
Gilbert Garcia, of Santa Paula, the only person in the vehicle, was taken into custody and VPD later discovered that he was wanted on two warrants. Garcia was booked into Ventura County Jail on charges related to evading a peace officer, a parole violation and the warrants.
