Boys have split decision against Santa Clara

The JV boys got a win, but the varsity just missed against the Saints.
The Santa Paula boys JV team beat Santa Clara last week, 56 to 42. The Cardinals non-league record increased to 6 - 1. Scoring for Santa Paula were Carlos Garcia, 19; Isaiah Lara, 9; Phillip Arellano, 6; and Joey Llamas and David Barajas each had 5.
JV Coach Alex Jamerson stated after the game that the Cards played well on defense but need to improve their free throw shooting, missing 11 of 26 shots from the charity stripe.
Prior to the start of the varsity game Kandice Garnica, Johanna Alvarez, and Cristina Orozco sang the National Anthem.
The varsity lost their game, 57 to 51 in front of the largest home crowd of season. The Santa Paula non-league record fell to 5 -5. The Saints had a front line between 6 3 and 6 6 in height. During the contest the Saints blocked at least ten shots by the Cardinals.
Brandon Casas led the Cardinals with 18 points, Joshua Garay tallied 13, Tim Garcia had 10, Isaac Ramirez 8, and Gabriel Diaz and Nicholas Aguilera each had 1. Coach Danny Guzman reflected after the game You live and die by the 3-point shots from outside. We made one and they made five from outside the arc.
