Santa Paws will be the watchword Saturday when SPARC, the Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center, offers photos of Old St. Nick with your furry friends.
Your pets will be able to get their picture taken with Santa Claus from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. December 15 at SPARC, 705 E. Santa Barbara St., at the corner of 7th Street. SPARC Executive Director Janeen Anderson said each 4-by6-inch framed photo is only $10, and all proceeds will benefit the no-kill shelter.
Anderson said Saturday’s event is a multi-pronged one: “We’re trying to raise awareness and promote SPARC; we’ll offer tours, and the shelter is also a Toys for Tots drop-off location. Saturday’s Santa Paws will be a great time for people to come in and see the facility, see the animals and get to know us.” Light traditional holiday refreshments will be served, as well as snacks for animals visiting Santa Paws.
Anderson said those seeking a photo of their pet with Santa Claus can bring their “dogs, cats, whatever furry friends they have, even bird... we’ll work with them whatever animal they want to bring and what is easiest. We’re open - bring your animal family!”
SPARC will even have some holiday photo accessories on hand, including Santa and elf hats for your posing pet to wear. Dogs must be on leashes, cats in carriers, and birds in cages.
And be prepared to stay awhile if you like: “We’re also going to have tours, animal adoptions will be available, and we’ll show off our facility and animals,” said Anderson. “It’s all about generating awareness about the animals and SPARC” and its core mission to make sure each animal has a loving home.
Anderson’s own pet, a cat named Chester, already has a loving home and he might just stop by SPARC Saturday to get his photo taken with Santa. And, she noted, “My parents have a shih tzu” that might also pose with Santa Claus.
Individuals can also bring an unwrapped toy to support the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program. Call SPARC at 525-8609 for more information.
