Cardinal wrestlers open their season against visiting Hueneme

The Santa Paula wrestling team opened there 2012-13 season with a dual match against Hueneme High School Wednesday night.
The Cardinal JV squad wrestled first. It was a close match that resulted in a 39-30 loss.
The Varsity wrestlers took the mat next and again it was a very close and exciting dual. It was back and fourth with six lead changes leading to a 33-33 tie with only the heavyweights left to wrestle. Santa Paula heavyweight Daniel Cano gave the Cards the win after he pinned Francisco Berber of Hueneme 2:19 into the second period.
Coach Robert Hastie said, “The gym was packed with a very lively crowd and both sides had plenty of support from there spectators.”
