The Cardinal boys participated in a scrimmage last week. Varsity coach Danny Guzman said the Boys played two solid scrimmage games last week against good competition. “All three levels demonstrated what they have been working on going back to the summer and played solid fundamental  basketball,” he said. “Defensively our guy’s came out strong and performed well.”

He added, “The varsity squad also came out and played tough as a team. This year’s team is led by a senior oriented squad with much higher standards and expectations for our boys.  This is evident by the strength of schedule our boys will be playing which consist of Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, Channel Islands, Hueneme, as well as playing in the Pacifica Tournament in which we will play Oxnard, Sierra Canyon, and Malibu (last years defending league champs). Also this year, our boys will be playing in the Ventura Kiwanis Tournament in which we will play host Ventura, Canyon, and Pacifica.” 

Overall, Guzman said the boys have been working hard all summer and in the fall, participating in fall leagues at Ventura College and engaging in a rigorous weightlifting program 3-to-4 times a week in preparation for the season. He also said, “The boys are looking good and we expect to be well prepared for league play to make a solid run at a championship.”
