A Santa Paula man allegedly with gang ties was arrested Sunday in connection with the stabbing of another man during a melee that broke out at a party in Fillmore ten days before.
Adrian Araujo, 22, was taken into custody at his Santa Paula home in the 300 block of Steckel Drive at about 8:15 p.m. November 25. Araujo is suspected of stabbing Enrique Rubio, 35 of Fillmore, multiple times in the torso during a November 15 party.
According to a statement, Ventura County Sheriffs deputies responded to reports of a melee at the apartment complex, located in the 600 block of River Street at about 11:20 p.m. Upon their arrival deputies found several adults who had been injured as a result of the fistfight. They also found Rubio, the only person who had been stabbed, suffering from several puncture wounds to his torso.
Fillmore Fire Department EMTs and AMR ambulance paramedics treated Rubio at the scene before he was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center. Rubio was treated at VCMC and released from the hospital several hours later.
After an investigation, VCSD detectives determined Araujo was responsible for stabbing Rubio. After his arrest Sunday Araujo was booked into the Ventura County Jail for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and enhancements for participating in a criminal street gang. His bail was set at $105,000.
