In the Friday November 23rd newspaper a story appeared in the Santa Paula Times with the following paragraph about City Manager Jaime Fontes and his contract:

“Although Fontes’ original contract did not call out specific percentage steps in raises, the new agreement stipulates that Fontes will receive a 5 percent a year increase each year upon a positive performance evaluation.”

The actual contract for Jaime Fontes reads:

“Every February 15 thereafter, only upon issuance of a positive performance evaluation, CITY agrees to consider an additional, discretionary increase to EMPLOYEE’s annual salary in amount not to exceed (5) percent.”
