Joe Camacho wins player of the week honors

Former Santa Paula High School standout Joe Camacho of MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) has been named the NAIA National Football Defensive Player of the Week.
The national office made the announcement this week. Camacho, a native of Santa Paula, led a MidAmerica Nazarene defense that held then-No. 16 Benedictine (Kan.) 24 points under its season scoring average, which entering the weekend ranked fifth in the NAIA.
The sophomore linebacker finished the contest with a career-high 14 tackles (six solo), including a sack early in the third quarter that played a key role in forcing a Raven field goal. He also added a forced fumble and pass breakup.
For the season, Camacho ranks third on the team with 42 tackles (18 solo).
