Jeanne Elizabeth Wilson

Jeanne Elizabeth Wilson passed away on September 24, 2012 at her home in Sonora, California. Jeanne was the daughter of Gale and Gaytha Johnson. She was born in 1925 in Lamesa, Texas, and moved to Santa Paula with her family at a young age and lived there most of her life.

In 1987, Jeanne and her husband, George, moved to Sonora to be near their late daughter, Judith Weldon, and her family. She married George E. Wilson in 1944, and they raised their three daughters on the family ranch in Santa Paula surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and neighbors.

She will be remembered for her ability to surround herself with beauty and share that beauty with others. Her sisters remember her for her strong will, intelligence, and style. Her friends will always think of her as a gracious hostess and as someone they could count on. Her daughters remember her for the loving bonds she created with her children and grandchildren.

She had a wonderful eye for beauty and design. Her husband would turn to her for input on architectural design and colors, her friends would go to her for interior design ideas for their homes, and her daughters are grateful to her for teaching them a deep appreciation for beauty. She created lovely, warm homes and beautiful gardens and loved to entertain her friends and family. Her flower arrangements were works of art, and she was a strong supporter of the artistic efforts of her family and community.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Wilson, and her daughter, Judith Weldon. She leaves her daughter, Lindsey Ritscher, of Marietta, Ohio and her children Allison Ritscher, Nathaniel Ritscher, and Meredith Dixon; her daughter Lisa Wilson and her husband Rob Meyer of Farmington, NM and their children Alex and Zoe Wilson-Meyer; and her son-in-law Steve Weldon and grandsons Jonathan and Todd, all of Sonora. She also leaves her sisters Ruth Young and Janice Ardizzone, and many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.

A gathering to honor her life is planned for Saturday, October 20 at the family home. The memorial service will start at 4 p.m. and will be followed by a reception/dinner. You are welcome to join at any point. Please contact Steve Weldon for further details.

Donations may be made in her memory to the Santa Paula Art Museum, Santa Paula, CA.
