United Water appoints new board members

The Board of Directors of United Water Conservation District has made two appointments to serve for the remainder of the terms for its two vacant seats. At the regular meeting of the Board of Directors on January 10, 2001, Mr. Roger Orr was appointed to the vacant Division 2 seat, representing the western portion of Santa Paula, eastern Ventura and the towns of Saticoy and El Rio. At the regular Board meeting of February 14, 2001, the Board appointed Mr. Bradford S. Newman to serve the remainder of the term for the vacant Division 3 seat, representing the City of Ventura.

At the regular meeting of the Board of Directors on January 10, 2001, Mr. Roger Orr was appointed to the vacant Division 2 seat, representing the western portion of Santa Paula, eastern Ventura and the towns of Saticoy and El Rio. At the regular Board meeting of February 14, 2001, the Board appointed Mr. Bradford S. Newman to serve the remainder of the term for the vacant Division 3 seat, representing the City of Ventura.Mr. Orr is a native of Santa Paula and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He currently serves as President and Manager of Alta Mutual Water Company and on the Boards of Directors of the California Citrus Research Board and the Board of Associates Insectary. Mr. Orr recently served on the Board of the Fox Canyon Groundwater Management Agency. His grandfather began farming in Santa Paula in the early 1900's and he continues the family tradition as a farmer and farm manager. Mr. Orr is committed to helping United fulfill its mandate of protecting and enhancing groundwater and surface water resources in Ventura County. "United Water is proud to welcome Mr. Orr to our Board of Directors. We look forward to a long and productive association," stated Dan Naumann, president of United's Board of Directors.Mr. Newman is a Certified Hydrogeologist and General Engineering Contractor specializing in hydrogeological analysis and water resource studies. He is a Registered Geologist and Well Inspector and currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer for TRAK Environmental Group, Inc. Mr. Newman holds a Credential in Groundwater Science from Ohio State University and completed a Doctoral Program in Environmental Science andEngineering, a B.S. and M.S. in Geology from UCLA and an M.B.A. from the California State College in Bakersfield. He has many professional affiliations, including the Association of Ground Water Scientists and Engineers; Coast Geological Society; Groundwater Resources Association of California; National Groundwater Association and Ventura County Farm Bureau. "Mr. Newman's wide range of professional and personal experience will be a valuable asset to the United Water Conservation District," stated Sheldon Berger, Secretary/Treasurer of United's Board of Directors.
UWCD is a public water agency responsible for conserving and protecting groundwater resources in Ventura County. In addition to the district's Lake Piru Recreation Area, United Water's facilities include: Santa Felicia Dam; spreading grounds in Saticoy, El Rio and Piru; an agricultural water delivery system; a wholesale municipal water delivery system; and the Freeman Diversion facility. The district provides wholesale water to the city of Oxnard, the Port Hueneme Water Agency (which includes the CBC and Point Mugu naval bases), Pleasant Valley County Water District, and several small mutual water companies. A seven-member elected board of directors directs the district's policy and activities.
