SP man injured by jumping into Punch Bowl waters

The dangerous Punch Bowl section of Santa Paula Canyon was the scene of a rescue Sunday after a Santa Paula man jumped off a 75-foot cliff into a pool of water below.

By Peggy KellySanta Paula TimesThe dangerous Punch Bowl section of Santa Paula Canyon was the scene of a rescue Sunday after a Santa Paula man jumped off a 75-foot cliff into a pool of water below.According to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department Justin Stenshol, 21, had visited the popular but dangerous Punch Bowl section of the canyon Sunday with friends.Stensol told his rescuers he injured himself after jumping off the 75-foot cliff into the water.
Stensol’s friends took him out of the water and were treating him by the pool when rescuers arrived on scene.Stenshol was placed on a backboard and hoisted on to the rescue helicopter, which transported him to Ventura County Medical Center where he received treatment for undisclosed injuries.An extremely rugged part of the Los Padres National Forest, the Punch Bowls are only accessible by hiking and has been the scene of numerous accidents and incidents.
