Channel Islands Harbor is gearing up to celebrate our nation’s birthday at the 10th Annual Fireworks by the Sea on Wednesday, July 4, 2007.

Channel Islands Harbor is gearing up to celebrate our nation’s birthday at the 10th Annual Fireworks by the Sea on Wednesday, July 4, 2007.The day’s celebration begins with a 10K & 5K Fun Run/Walk along the water’s edge. Registration starts at 7 a.m. with the races beginning at 8 a.m. at Sunset Lane. The starting line is located adjacent to the Whale’s Tail Restaurant. Awards will be given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in all age divisions.The celebration continues with the Annual Fourth of July Parade beginning at 11 a.m. Visitors can watch the parade as it travels south on Harbor Boulevard from Harbor Landing Shopping Center to the Whale’s Tail Restaurant, adjacent to the Channel Islands Yacht Club. The parade will feature youth groups, classic cars, musicians and much more! Activities and entertainment are scheduled throughout the day at Fisherman’s Wharf and Marine Emporium Landing. At Fisherman’s Wharf, visitors can enjoy musical entertainment in the courtyard and a number of other activities including an Artist’s Market, food booths, water taxi rides and children’s games and rides. “Make Your Own Aquarium,” balloons, face painting, a gigantic inflatable fun zone, rock climbing wall, petting zoo & pony rides will be available for children of all ages to enjoy. Visitors can dine at one of the shopping center restaurants as well as browse through the art gallery, gift shop and the Ventura County Maritime Museum.From Fisherman’s Wharf, visitors can take the water taxi to Marine Emporium Landing to find adventure! A free kayak lesson or one hour’s free kayak rental is available at Channel Islands Kayak Center from 8 to 10 a.m.
Other activities at Marine Emporium Landing include an arts & crafts show, live music, special Farmer’s/Fisherman’s Market, food & beverage vendors, and a 4th of July “Old Fashioned BBQ.”The star spangled Celebration will end with a bang during the spectacular fireworks display beginning at 9:00 p.m. This grand finale can be viewed from many points along the Harbor including a variety of waterfront restaurants.“Fireworks Cruises” are available to watch the fabulous fireworks display from the water aboard reserved charters with Channel Islands Sportfishing Center, Captain Hooks Sportfishing, or Island Packers. The water taxi will be available for general transportation from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Entry applications for both the 4th of July Parade and 10K Race & 5K Run as well as detailed event information can be obtained on the website at channelislandsharbor.org.
