Ventura College offering late start classes, high school students can enroll for free

Although registration for the spring semester full-length classes has completed at Ventura College, new classes open up every week.

Although registration for the spring semester full-length classes has completed at Ventura College, new classes open up every week. Called “late-start” courses because they start after the semester begins or “short term” classes because they do not take the full 18 weeks to complete; these courses are designed to assist students who need classes that do not take the full 18 weeks, such as high school students, including seniors who might need a few extra credits or a specific class in order to complete their graduation requirements.Ventura College is offering almost 100 different classes, ranging from 1 unit to 5 units, and starting each week from January 22 through April 16. Late start and short term class listings are available online at www.venturacollege.edu or by contacting the counseling office at 805-654-6448.Courses available include Child Development classes, training in the Microsoft programs Powerpoint, Excel, Word and Access, Web design classes, and introductory courses in Philosophy, Sociology, and Western Civilization. One often challenging graduation requirement, American Government, is offered beginning March 12, and completing two months later, just in time for high school graduations. High school students who are California residents pay no enrollment fees at any California Community College.
For those who made a New Year’s resolution to get in shape, classes in the physical education department are still available. Participants can be tailor their enrollment in the Ventura College Fitness Center to meet their schedule by taking the Aerobic and Strength Training class.
